The IRF520 is a Power Mosfet that has a 9.2 A collector current and 100 V breakdown voltage. It has a low gate threshold voltage of 4V. Hence, commonly used with microcontrollers like Arduino for switching high current loads.

IRF Mosfets need 10V at the gate to fully turn on. IRL Mosfets need 5V at the gate to fully turn on.

Pin Configuration

Source (Pin 1) Current flows out through Source
Gate (Pin 2) Controls the biasing of the MOSFET
Drain (Pin 3) Current flows in through Drain

  • N-Channel Power MOSFET
  • It has a continuous drain current of 9.2A
  • It has drained to source breakdown voltage as 100V
  • Its drain-source resistance is 0.27 Ohms
  • Its gate threshold voltage is 4V (max)
  • It is commonly used with Arduino, due to its low threshold voltage

  • Switching high power devices
  • Control speed of motors
  • LED dimmers or flashers
  • High-Speed switching applications
  • Converters or Inverter circuits
